Dental Assisting National Board, Inc. (“DANB”) provides the following privacy policy (the “Privacy Policy”) in order to demonstrate our firm commitment to privacy. Please carefully read this Privacy Policy and familiarize yourself with our privacy practices regarding your personal information and how we use it. This Privacy Policy applies to the DANB website (www.danb.org – our “Site”).
To make this document more readable, “we,” “us,” and “our” refer to DANB. “You” and “your” refers to anybody using our Site.
This Privacy Policy describes how DANB collects and uses your personal information. By using our Site, you consent to us collecting and storing your data as described in this Privacy Policy and our Terms & Conditions. If you do not agree to these terms, please do not use our Site.
DANB may need to change this Privacy Policy from time to time in order to address new issues and to reflect changes on our Site. Please refer back to this Privacy Policy regularly to stay aware of any modifications. Your continued use of our Site after changes have been posted will constitute acceptance of this Privacy Policy and any changes.
A. Collection of Personal Information. When you initiate a transaction or request for information on the Site, DANB may ask for information about you. Such information may include name, age, date of birth, last four digits of your Social Security Number, education, work experience, postal address, e-mail address, zip code, credit card information, and telephone number. When corresponding with DANB or when making a request for information or otherwise interacting with DANB through the Site, you choose what information to supply, what questions or comments to submit, and by what method of communication information should be delivered. Please take care to share only such information as is needed and that you believe is appropriate. By providing your email address and phone number to DANB when creating your account, you are consenting to receive email or text messages from DANB and its official affiliates related to their products and services or news affecting the oral healthcare profession. You may opt out of these messages at any time.
Some transactions may require that you leave the DANB Site and complete the transaction on the site of a third-party vendor with which DANB has an agreement. These third-party sites may be subject to terms and conditions and policies that differ from those described in these Terms and Conditions of Use. Please refer to any terms and conditions or policy documents available at those sites for additional information.
B. Collection of Information Using Cookie Technology. DANB may collect information through the use of “cookie” technology and/or Internet Protocol (“IP”) address tracking. Cookies are small text files a website can use to recognize repeat users and facilitate the user’s ongoing access to and use of the Site. Such information might include the browser used by the user, the type of computer, the operating systems, the Internet service providers and other similar information. The DANB system also automatically gathers information about the areas the user visits on the Site and about the links the user may select from within the Site to other sites. DANB may collect aggregate information on what pages you access or visit and the length of time you spend at DANB’s website. The information DANB collects is used to improve the content and content delivery of the Site, including online content, materials, and services that we describe or make available on the Site.
DANB cannot control the use of cookies by third parties whose sites a user visits or links to from the Site. Most browsers are set to accept cookies. You can set yours to refuse cookies, or to alert you when cookies are being sent.
Do Not Track. “Do Not Track” is a privacy preference that users can set in certain web browsers. We do not respond to browser do not track signals.
C. Use of Personally Identifiable Information. The information you share will be used to fulfill the request or complete the transaction you initiated, in accordance with this Privacy Policy and with additional terms and conditions as may be set forth at the time of the transaction.
For example, if you supply us with your postal address and/or e-mail address via the Site, you may receive periodic emails from DANB or its affiliates with information on new products and services or upcoming events. If you do not wish to receive such emails, you may unsubscribe from the email list by clicking the “unsubscribe” link at the bottom of the email. Similarly, if you provide us with your telephone number via the Site, DANB may use your telephone number only to contact you about the order or transaction that you have initiated via the Site.
D. Sharing of Personally Identifiable Information. The DANB Site may provide information about individuals who have passed exams administered by DANB, such as name, city and state of residence, certification status, certification number, exam passing status, and information about other DANB-administered credentials held. Other identifying information is not made available to Users through the credential verification process. Users of the Site agree to use the credential verification information for legitimate purposes, such as verification of credentials for employment or regulatory reasons or to verify certification status prior to publication of certification designations. Users of the Site agree not to use credential verification information, in whole or in part, for mailing lists, solicitations, fundraising or commercial purposes.
We may share your information with our affiliate or partner organizations, including the DALE Foundation and Organization for Safety and Prevention (“OSAP”). We will not sell or otherwise transfer or disclose your personal information, including your name, email address, street address or phone number, to third parties without your prior consent except: (a) as may be necessary for such third parties to provide services to us or deliver the Products; (b) as may be required by federal, state or local law or by rules regulating the oral healthcare professions; or (c) as may be required to protect the rights, property, interests or personal safety of our Website, the DALE Foundation or our officers, directors, employees, members, other users, and/or the public, or in the event of a bankruptcy, transfer of assets, reorganization or other restructuring.
E. Retention of Your Information. DANB will retain your personal information only for as long as is reasonably necessary for the purposes set out in this Privacy Policy. The criteria used to determine the retention periods include: (i) how long the personal information is needed to provide the services (including in connection with our guarantees) and operate the business; (ii) the type of personal information collected; and (iii) whether we are subject to a legal, contractual or similar obligation to retain the data (e.g., requirements for certifying boards, mandatory data retention laws, government orders to preserve data relevant to an investigation, or data that must be retained for the purposes of litigation or disputes).
F. Links to other sites. Users may find advertising or other content on the Site that enable linking to the sites of advertisers and other third parties. These third party sites may have their own privacy policies or no policy at all. The DANB Privacy Policy does not apply to such other sites. DANB has no control over and is not responsible for the content displayed on such sites, nor over the measures, if any, that are taken by such sites to protect the privacy of user information. Users should check the privacy policy of any third party site before providing personally identifiable information.
G. Security of Information. Data security is important to us, but please keep in mind that no method of transmission over the Internet or method of electronic storage is 100% secure. While we strive to use reasonable and appropriate measures to help protect information, we cannot guarantee its absolute security.
If you access an area of the Site that requires a password, it is your responsibility to take proper security measures to protect your password. For example, do not share your password with others or use the same password on more than one website.
H. Children’s Privacy. You must be at least 13 years old to use the Website and the Products. Our Website and Products are not intended for children under 13 years of age. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we learn that we have collected or received personal information from a child under 13 without verification of parental consent, we will delete that information.
If you are between 13 and 17 years old, you may use our Site only with the involvement and permission of a parent or guardian. If you are a parent or guardian and you believe that your child has provided us with personal information, please contact us. (Please see the “Contact Information” section below.) If we become aware that we have collected personal information from children without verification of parental consent, we will take steps to remove that personal information from our servers.
I. California Privacy Rights Under “Shine the Light.”
California’s “Shine The Light” law permits certain individuals who are
California residents to annually request and obtain information free of
charge about what personal information is disclosed to third parties for
direct marketing purposes in the preceding calendar year. We do not
distribute your personal information to outside parties for their direct
marketing without your consent, except as provided for in this Privacy
